Roma’s Jose Mourinho on top four race after Bologna draw: “I said we don’t have the potential”

Jose Mourinho has stated that he always believed in the fact that Roma can’t finish inside the top four this season.

The Giallorossi were held to a goalless draw by Bologna and they are now six points away from fourth-placed Lazio, with only three games to go. Lazio need to win another game to make sure that Roma’s hopes for the top four end but the Giallorossi could yet play in the Champions League next season if they win the Europa League.

After the draw against his student Thiago Motta’s side, Mourinho spoke to DAZN (via TMW) about the result and Roma’s hopes for the top four and if they are over already.

He said: “The fans have to listen to me, when we were third or second I always said we were thinking game after game. I always said that we didn’t have the potential to play till the end of two competitions. I’ve been saying this here for two-three months.”

While it is fair to say that Mourinho has previously warned fans about Roma’s ability to qualify for the top four but he also took a snide shot at Maurizio Sarri for focusing only on the league, saying that it isn’t something Mourinho himself does. But as of now, that is pretty much what Mourinho is doing, considering the squad that he used against the Rossoblu.
