Salernitana’s Paolo Sousa on Pasquale Mazzocchi after draw v Napoli: “He’s Champions League quality”

Salernitana boss Paolo Sousa had big praise for the club’s full-back Pasquale Mazzocchi after the Salerno-based side held neighbours Napoli to a 1-1 draw at the Maradona.

At one point, it seemed as if Napoli were going to celebrate their third Scudetto in history but Boulaye Dia’s late equaliser made sure that the celebrations were delayed for atleast three days. Salernitana also had a late chance to win the game but it ended 1-1 in dramatic circumstances.

The game saw Mazzocchi put in an impressive performance and that wasn’t the first time that the Azzurri player has done well in big games. In the post-game press conference, Sousa had big praise for the full-back.

“I’ve already expressed my opinion on him, Pasquale is a player on Champions League levels. The more consistency he has, the more decisive he is. Daniliuc helped him a lot, but everyone showed humility and work. Under pressure he manages to jump the man , is also decisive on crosses. Mazzocchi is an important player.”

The 27-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs across Italy this season. He has made 21 games in Serie A and he has come up with two goals and has racked up a couple of assists as well. Sousa’s side are 14th in the table and with six games to go, are seven points clear of the drop.
