Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali hits back at Jose Mourinho over Domenico Berardi comments

Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has responded to the recent criticism aimed in the direction of Neroverdi star Domenico Berardi by Jose Mourinho.

Sassuolo, and Roma, of course went toe-to-tie this past weekend, the latter ultimately emerging on the right side of a hard-fought 2-1 result. In the buildup to the clash, though, the aforementioned Mourinho turned attentions away from the pitch once more.

This came upon the Portuguese aiming something of a jibe at Sassuolo talisman Domenico Berardi.

As cited by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Mourinho sniped:

“Then there’s Berardi, he’s a fantastic player but he needs to have a little more respect for his opponents. What he does to make fun of his opponents and get fouls is too much. I love the player he is but I don’t like him at all.”

Berardi, for his part, went on to feature from the off against Roma, bagging the assist for Matheus Henrique’s first-half opener.

And now, as alluded to above, the 29-year-old has seen his reputation staunchly defended, by Sassuolo chief Giovanni Carnevali.

Drawn on Mourinho’s comments during an appearance at the 2023 Football Grand Gala, Carnevali slammed the Roma headmaster, adamant that he is simply ‘wrong’ about Berardi’s character:

“I don’t think anyone should talk about their opponents’ players,” the Neroverdi general manager began, as cited by Tuttomercatoweb. Above all, the words he said are not correct. It is his thought but it is all wrong.”
