Serie A PREVIEW | Napoli v Fiorentina

A six-pointer clash is on the cards tonight as Napoli face Fiorentina at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in their final action before the international break.

Napoli head into this match on the back of a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Real Madrid in Matchday 2 of the Champions League group stages. Former Partenopei manager Carlo Ancelotti returned to the city of Naples and won the day but this time from the sidelines of the opposition.

The Neapolitans opened the scoring first during their last match when Leo Ostigard headed home from a corner which Real Madrid failed to protect. However, the lead was shortlived as two quick goals from Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham turned the tide in the visiting side’s way. The scores were equalised by a Piotr Zielinski penalty strike in the second half but Fede Valverde’s thunderous strike from long-range, ultimately resulting in an Alex Meret own goal settled the three points in Los Blancos’ favour.

Rudi Garcia’s side have scored a total of ten goals combined from their last three outings and are excellent goalscoring form. However, their shaky start to the season has resulted in a seven-point deficit from league leaders Milan but a win tonight could cut short that to only four.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina’s haul of ten points from their last four Serie A matches has turned out to be a massive one for them as they are currently level on points with the current Scudetto holders Napoli.

The Viola’s previous outing was in the Europa Conference League where they had to settle for their second draw from the campaign after a 2-2 standoff with Genk in the opening fixture. Ferencvaros built a two-goal lead after goals from Barnabas Varga and Ibrahim Cisse but strikes from Antonin Barak and Jonathan Ikone salvaged a point for the hosts.

Vincenzo Italiano’s side picked up a comprehensive 3-goal win against Cagliari in their last league match and are now unbeaten in six straight matches across all competitions.
