Stats chart Romelu Lukaku’s improvement at Inter since April

Belgian star Romelu Lukaku proved vital for Inter once again today, as he grabbed a brace to help the Nerazzurri pick up a nervous 4-2 win over Sassuolo.

The striker’s goals came at vital moments. When Domenico Berardi’s goal was chalked off and Sassuolo were on top, Lukaku put Inter ahead and when Sassuolo were on top and potentially on the verge of making it 3-3 while being 3-0 down, Lukaku scored the decisive goal and made it 4-2.

This is a fair reflection of Lukaku’s importance in recent weeks. Since April, the ex-Manchester United man has played seven Serie A games and has contributed to nine goals. He hasn’t just scored, he has also assisted a fair bit. He has five goals and four assists during this period.

The run has coincided with a time when Simone Inzaghi’s job was said to be on the line and Inter were heading into a vital point of the season, as they were pushed out of the top four after Juventus’ 15-point gap was removed. But Lukaku’s form has been vital and he has given Inzaghi a headache he would like.
