Former Roma and Inter sporting director Walter Sabatini has criticised Romelu Lukaku for the way he betrayed the Nerazzurri.
As of now, Lukaku is set to join Roma – another one of Sabatini’s former clubs. He will arrive in the city later today and then undergo a medical.
But the build-up to the saga has been rather intriguing, as Lukaku initially seemed destined to join Inter until he stopped responding to the calls from the club and the players, agreeing personal terms with Juventus. But a move to the Bianconeri also never took off as Chelsea could agree terms for a swap deal with the Old Lady.
With the move to Roma set to go through, Sabatini spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his betrayal to Inter and said:
“Certainly in modern football the behavior of the players and their agents is out of control. In this case, however, the agent has nothing to do with it and the responsibility lies entirely with Lukaku. Inter waited for him when he was out for months at due to an injury and when he was playing badly. And he behaved in such a way and that’s why I say he did something ignoble and incomprehensible.”
Lukaku will reunite with Jose Mourinho at Roma, having worked with him at Chelsea and Manchester United and the idea of him combining with Paulo Dybala is quite tantalising for Roma fans.
