Which Players Transferred To Serie A and B Sides Over The Summer?

Football is back after a whirlwind summer of transfers. The Italian leagues, particularly Serie A and B, will welcome many new faces this season, and this article is intended to familiarize you with who these players are and which teams they’ve joined.

Serie A Transfers For The 2023/24 Season

Oliver Christensen

Over the summer, football transfers were in full flight. Online betting is part of the culture surrounding the transfer window, and many sports fans were carefully wagering on where they thought players would be going ahead of the 2023/24 season. While some sports bettors used third-party sites for sports tips, others went based on the news circulating media outlets — and one thing that became abundantly clear in the media was that Serie A team Fiorentina was desperate for a new goalkeeper. The team was linked to various players, from Lorenzo Montipò to Guglielmo Vicario, but ACF Fiorentina ultimately went with Oliver Christensen. Christensen signed a four-year contract for €5 million, joining the Serie A side from Bundesliga club Hertha BSC. While some sports bettors may not have put their money on Christensen, it’s evident why Fiorentina signed him: he’s young, athletic, and known for his 1-v-1 saves and depth in passing.

Emil Audero

Indonesian-Italian goalkeeper Emilio Audero signed for Inter Milan on August 10, 2023, following the relegation of his former team Sampdoria to Serie B at the end of the 2022/23 season. The deal will last the entire season, and Inter Milan can make Audero’s move permanent at the end. Despite not appearing in the match, Inter Milan are off to a good start to the season, winning 4-2 against Egnatia on August 13, with Lautaro Martinez scoring twice.

Nikola Vlašić

Croatian attacking midfielder, who also plays left wing, joined Serie A side Torino from West Ham on loan in August 2022. Torino had the option to buy the player at the end of the loan spell, and the team went forward with this option, making Vlašić’s move permanent in August 2023.

Yann Sommer

In August 2023, Inter Milan signed 34-year-old Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich. The Swiss goalie has many accolades to his name, including winning the Swiss Super League Cup 4 seasons in a row with FC Basel, the Bundesliga title in the 2022/23 season with Bayern Munich, and winning the Credit Suisse Player of the Year award in 2016, 2018, and 2021.

Serie B Transfers For The 2023/24 Season

Luca Pandolfi

Italian forward Luca Pandolfi permanently joined Serie B side AS Cittadella on August 10, 2023, after moving to Juve Stabia from Cosenza in July 2022. Cittadella will likely strive for greatness this season, with their near promotion to Serie A in the 2020/21 season still fresh in their heads.

The transfer window can be exciting and heartbreaking in football, with, for example, fans of Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League watching Harry Kane join Bayern Munich. But, for Serie A football fans this season, there’s been more excitement than heartbreak, with many new faces joining some of the top squads in the league, such as Facundo González joining Juventus.
