Zlatan Ibrahimović announces retirement

Zlatan Ibrahimović has confirmed that he is retiring from the sport with immediate effect, following Milan’s win over Verona.

The Rossoneri picked up a 3-1 win at San Siro and Ibrahimovic was expected to bid farewell to the club. But after the game, the Swede announced that he is bringing his iconic career to an end, after having played for so many huge clubs across his career.

After the game, Zlatan entered the San Siro pitch and gave a speech to those at the stadium. He stated: “I have many memories and many emotions here, the first time I arrived here you gave me happiness. The second time, love. I want to thank everyone, especially the fans. I will be a Milan fan for life The time has come to say goodbye to football, but not to you. See you around, if you’re lucky. Forza Milan and goodbye.”

Zlatan had joined Milan after his stint in the MLS with LA Galaxy had ended and he had joined the United States outfit after his Manchester United stint had ended rather prematurely due to a knee injury.

Across his career, Ibra played for the likes of United, Barcelona, Milan, Inter, Juventus and Ajax and he revolutionised the sport with his ability to be a technical footballer despite a staggering physique. He also helped Milan win the Scudetto last season but picked up a serious knee injury after that.

It was expected that he would carry on playing till the Euros in 2024  but this seems like the end.
