Genoa’s Mateo Retegui to start for Italy against Venezuela

Genoa striker Mateo Retegui is set to start for Italy in the upcoming international friendly against Venezuela later today.

The Azzurri play two games in the Americas during the international break and the first one sees them take on Venezuela. Corriere della Sera (via TMW) state that manager Luciano Spalletti is keen on having the guarantee of goals in the 4-3-3 formation and Retegui seems set to get a start.

While Roberto Mancini could never really find a solution for the centre-forward issue and Gianluca Scamacca has never really convinced playing for the Azzurri, Spalletti is ready to trust Retegui regularly. The Genoa man has been used rather sparingly by Spalletti but he is expected to get a start today, with Federico Chiesa and Davide Frattesi to start behind him.

On top of that, Spalletti also wants to quickly discover an alternative to a 4-3-3 and instead of using that shape, he is likely to use a 3-4-2-1, which will have the front three of Retegui, Chiesa and Frattesi.
