Inter legend reveals Romelu Lukaku suffered from deep muscle tear last season

Inter legend Beppe Bergomi has revealed that Romelu Lukaku had suffered a deep muscle tear at the Nerazzurri last season and this denied him from playing at his best.

Lukaku featured against Inter recently, but his Roma side picked up a 4-2 defeat and the Belgian flopped against his former club again, despite the Giallorossi being 2-1 up at halftime. He has done well at Roma, after having disappointed Inter fans in the summer regarding a summer move.

Inter legend Beppe Bergomi spoke to Sky Italia recently (via Daniele Mari) and he revealed the extent of the fitness issues Lukaku faced last season and how they impacted his performances.

Bergomi said: “From what they told me he had a very deep muscle tear at lnter. And given his physique it took him a long time to come back. Before he tore, he could recover easily. He has completely lost that strength. But I still think he can still
determine our football, last year he helped a lot after his recovery.”

Lukaku has done well for the Giallorossi this season, having scored 15 times in all competitions. He has scored nine times in Serie A, picking up once assist. Whether he can come back to his prolific best remains to be seen.
