Jose Mourinho on Roma exit: “Unexpected and unfair dismissal”

Former Roma boss Jose Mourinho has described his sacking from the Serie A giants to be ‘unexpected’ and ‘unfair’, as he now looks for a new venture.

Roma sacked Mourinho in January, replacing him with Daniele de Rossi as the interim boss. The Giallorossi did lose to Inter recently but they have won three games and are closer to the top four than they were under Mourinho. They are preparing to take on Feyenoord in the play-off round of the Europa League.

Mourinho meanwhile, has made his views clear about his sacking. In a chat with Football.com (via TMW), the Portuguese spoke about a host of issues and he was also asked about his stint at Roma and how it ended. He also took shots at the Friedkins for his sacking.

He said: “The European competitions are about to begin, in particular the Champions League, perhaps the most important competition on the world calendar. I won’t be there at these final phases, not because I have already been eliminated, but because I was “eliminated” by someone who knows little about football. That’s life, full of ups and downs, and I’m growing, despite the unexpected and unfair dismissal. But I’ll be back , and with even more enthusiasm and confidence, for these UEFA matches.”

He also spoke about his long and heralded career so far, providing details about how he looks at games tactically.

“I have participated in many matches and have reached the final several times. They are truly special matches, for us coaches, for the fans and, obviously, for the players. I therefore have sufficient experience and knowledge to know how to move forward, even when we have opponents with much greater potential than ours. In this phase I always keep in mind: in the first game you always play to win, in the second you know what you need to go to the next round, that is, win with a goal, draw or even lose with one or two goals. And knockout matches are managed on this basis.

“Of course, it is essential to know your opponents well, study them, analyze their strengths and weaknesses, see how they behave when they play home and away, see how they react when the result is unfavorable. This knowledge allows you to devise the right strategy and provide the players with all the essential information so that they know what they will face when they take the field.”

Mourinho has been linked with roles at Napoli and Al-Shabab but it seems as if he will not end up at either destinations.
