Jose Mourinho on Roma stint: “If there is a perfect example of professionalism, it is me”

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has heralded himself as the ‘perfect example’ of professionalism, with his future at the club under question.

It has been reported that the Portuguese’s future at the club could be decided in the next 30 days, with games against Milan and Feyenoord in the Europa League coming up. He isn’t just fighting for his future at the club, but he is also fighting for his present as fans weren’t happy after the recent loss to Lazio.

Ahead of Roma’s Serie A clash against Milan on Sunday, Mourinho stated that he hasn’t done anything wrong at Roma and has always been professional during his time at the club.

He hailed himself as the perfect example of professionalism, saying that he has been present at every training session.

He said: “I’ve been here for two years and five months and I’m the only person in this team who hasn’t missed a single training session. For me, there are no illnesses or bad moods. For two and a half years I haven’t done anything wrong, not even a couple of weeks ago when everyone was sick.

“Months ago I needed a day for a situation that I don’t have to explain. I told Pinto and the ownership and we defined that the day after the derby would be a good day. I was out of Rome for 15 hours. It seems ridiculous to me to justify this. I do not accept in any way that my professionalism and dignity, my heart for this job be questioned. If there is a perfect example of professionalism it is me. I have never missed one match in over 20 years of career. Recovery training for those who played and for six players who hadn’t played.”

Mourinho’s current contract at Roma expires in the summer and while he has made it clear that he wants to extend his contract, the club’s owners haven’t come forward with any offer so far.
