Napoli boss Francesco Calzona on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s problems: “He concentrates so much that he loses imagination”

New Napoli manager Francesco Calzona believes that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia tries too hard sometimes, after the club’s 1-1 draw against Cagliari in the Serie A.

The Partenopei should’ve beaten Cagliari earlier today but they missed a host of chances and Zito Luvumbo equalised in the last minute of stoppage time to hand them a hammer blow. This comes days after their promising 1-1 draw against Barcelona in the Champions League, which was Calzona’s first game as manager.

Kvaratskhelia has witnessed some struggles this season under the three managers and Calzona was asked about his problems in a chat with DAZN (via TMW). He stated that the Georgian sometimes is overthinking and trying too hard, which is making him less creative.

“As far as my management is concerned, he does everything he can to do what I ask of him. Maybe he concentrates so much that he loses his imagination. I think he will give us a hand soon, I’m happy with his availability and this does me good to hope”.

Kvaratskhelia has also expressed his unhappiness with his performances sometimes. Under Rudi Garcia, he had been unhappy at being substituted. Even against Barcelona, he was taken off early and he seemed to react angrily to him being taken off.
