Napoli now under investigation for false accounting

Napoli CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis is under investigation for false accounting because of the club’s move for Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian’s move was under the scanner because of the players Napoli had inserted in the transfer, with Lille having received players. The accusation was that Napoli had inflated the values of the players and had thus managed to sign Osimhen.

La Repubblica (via GIFN )now state that the Rome prosecutor has closed the investigation in the Osimhen saga and the club and De Laurentiis will be investigated for false accounting. An indictment could be handed, now that the investigation in the situation is on. Apart from De Laurentiis, other members of the club’s board are also under investigation.

Osimhen had arrived at the club in the summer of 2020 and it was stated that the club paid €71.2 million for the striker. Four players were offered to Lille as part of the move and as per Napoli, those players were valued at €21 million. The three youngsters were Luigi Liguori, Claudio Manzi and Ciro Palmieri. Goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis was also part of the move, but all the players have disappeared from the mainstream footballing landscape.
