Piotr Zielinski at risk of being excluded from Napoli squad

Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski is on the verge of being excluded from the club’s squad for this season.

According to a report by Corriere dello Sport via Calcio Napoli 24, Piotr Zielinski has rejected the recent salary hike with a contract extension from Napoli. Club President Aurelio De Laurentiis sent the new contract with an undisclosed wage increase and a €20 million release clause.

Following the rejection by the 29-year-old, he is expected to face the same fate as that of Arkadiusz Milik during his final days with the Partenopei. The Polish striker too refused an extension and he was subsequently dropped from the Serie A and Europa League squads during the 2020/21 season.

Zielinski has already blocked moves from Saudi Arabian clubs as he wants to remain in the Serie A. Right now, Inter are the only interested party to land his signature. The Nerazzurri will be able to sign the attacking midfielder for free now but in that scenario, he will arrive in June. However, they can materialise a transfer immediately at a cut-price fee to the Neapolitans.
