The Derby della Capitale is scheduled tonight in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia as Lazio and Roma go head-to-head in their road to secure glory.
After going winless against Verona, Atletico Madrid and Inter, Lazio have finally set up their stride following securing three victories in each of their previous three league games. Currently sitting 7th in the league standings, the Biancocelesti are slowly recovering their form after an underwhelming start to the season. Despite their earlier downtrodden form, Maurizio Sarri’s men could progress to the knockouts of the Champions League but it will be a tough task for them to ensure a spot for the next one.
Meanwhile, Roma have endured an inconsistent line of form throughout this campaign and while they recovered quicker than their city rivals after a tough start, they were pegged back by Lazio in the Serie A standings by a point. The Giallorossi were made to struggle hard by Cremonese in the competition’s Round of 16 as Paulo Dybala’s 85th-minute penalty strike helped them progress to this stage. Earlier Frank Tsadjout’s 37th-minute goal put the visitors in lead and Romelu Lukaku’s 77th-minute equaliser provided the hosts with enthusiasm to go for another. The last Rome derby ended in a goalless affair but a winner is to be ensured tonight.
