Rafael Leão takes to social media to protest Milan’s defeat to Atalanta

Milan star Rafael Leão has taken to social media late on Wednesday, to make his frustration clear about the standard of officiating during his side’s meeting with Atalanta.

The Rossoneri were of course back in action a short time ago, welcoming Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta to San Siro with a spot in the Coppa Italia semi-finals on the line. When all was said and done, it was the visitors who emerged on the right side of the result, owing to a brace from midfield standout Teun Koopmeiners.

Atalanta’s triumph, however, was not without its controversies. The game’s decisive moment was forthcoming just shy of the hour mark, when Koopmeiners lashed a penalty beyond Mike Maignan in the Milan goal.

Replays of the challenge which led to the spot-kick being awarded, though, appeared to show Alex Jimenez making clear contact with the ball, before his follow through on Aleksei Miranchuk.

Amid widespread agreement that the decision should have been overturned, the aforementioned Rafael Leão has in turn taken to social media, to make his feelings clear.

In a pair of posts on his official X account, the Portuguese, who opened the scoring with a fine finish against Atalanta, first labelled the penalty call ‘incredible’, before also insinuating that Milan should have been afforded a last-gasp spot-kick of their own:
