Roma’s Europa League win hands centre-stage to Italy in Europe

Roma scraped past Feyenoord at the end of their Europa League clash, as they beat the Dutch side on penalties to reach the knockout stages of the competition.

The Serie A side have beaten Feyenoord twice before, beating them last season in the Europa League and beating them in the Conference League final in 2022. They have now beaten them thrice and this doesn’t just help Italy with their UEFA Co-efficient.

As of now, Italy have seven teams in Europe and they had started with seven. No team has been eliminated, Atalanta already in the knockout stages of the Europa League and Fiorentina in the knockouts of the Conference League. Serie A is the only league where no team has been eliminated.

This somewhat mirrors last season, where Fiorentina had reached the Conference League final, Roma reached the Europa League final and Inter reached the Champions League final. None of them won their finals but it helped the UEFA Coefficient, where Italy are top.
