Simone Inzaghi leads Inter to new club record in Serie A drubbing of Atalanta

The remarkable campaign being enjoyed by Serie A table-toppers Inter only continued on Wednesday, by way of a dominant victory over Atalanta.

And, en route to their latest three-point haul, the Nerazzurri secured for themselves a special piece of history.

Having long been in possession of a game in hand over the rest of the chasing pack, Inter welcomed Gian Piero Gasperini’s Atalanta to San Siro late last night.

Simeone Inzaghi’s troops headed into proceedings brimming with confidence, fresh off a trio of wins in the space of a week, featuring nine goals scored, and not a single one conceded.

Safe to say, then, that the visitors to Milan were always facing an uphill task in their efforts to emerge with something to show for their efforts.

And yet, few could likely have predicted just how one-sided the action would ultimately go on to prove.

Owing to goals on the part of all of Matteo Darmian, Lautaro Martinez, Federico Dimarco and Davide Frattesi, Inter ran out 4-0 victors for the 2nd game running.

They now boast a hefty 12-point advantage over 2nd-placed Juventus in the Serie A standings, and look a near lock for the Scudetto crown.

In turn, it should perhaps come as little surprise to hear that, on Wednesday, Inzaghi’s troops etched their names into the history books.

As per statisticians Opta, Inter have emerged victorious from each of the club’s first seven league outings in a calendar year for the first time ever:
