Atalanta make history

Opta have revealed that Atalanta made a series of records with a 7-1 win over Udinese last weekend.

That result equalled their biggest ever win in their Serie A history, their previous occasion in which they won by the same scoreline in a 1952 match versus Triestina.

Striker Luis Muriel is only the second Atalanta player to have fired in eight goals during the opening nine matches of the season following Karl Aage Hansen’s nine goals in the 1949/50 campaign. Perhaps even more remarkably, the Colombian has done so in only three league starts so far since joining in the summer.

In just nine matches, La Dea have fired in a total of 28 times. The only team to have done better was when AC Milan scored 29 times in the first nine encounters of the 1992/93 season, a campaign in which they went on to win the league by four points.

Next up is Napoli on Wednesday, a tough test for a side in top form.
