Di Biagio resigns from U-21 post

The day after Italy’s U-21 squad was eliminated from the UEFA European Championship, head coach Luigi Di Biagio has resigned.

Di Biagio had been at that post since 2013, with extremely underwhelming performances in tournaments.

A semifinal appearance in the 2017 European Championship was the only decent performance with group stage exits in both the 2015 and 2019 editions of the tournament.

“My experience ends here,” Di Biagio said today at a press conference. “If relaunching Italian football was one of the main objectives, then I can say that a great job has been done, helping important youngsters develop and with many players moving up to the National Team.”

Di Biagio leaves after six years with the Italian U-21 squad.
