Lecce fans turning up in numbers

Lecce have sold out for this Saturday’s match versus Juventus, a figure which makes a cumulative attendance of 100,000 supporters in the last four matches at the Stadio Via del Mare.

The Southern club, which lies around 800 miles from Turin, have sold 18,763 season tickets, according to a report in La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Yet it is not just those who have committed for the full campaign that are turning up, with an attendance of around 22,000 versus Napoli, 24,500 versus Hellas Verona and sell outs of 27,000 for matches with AS Roma and Saturday’s encounter with the reigning champions.

The Salentini have just had approval to open up the stadium to its capacity of 31,700 after restructuring work was completed. Coach Fabio Liverani achieved promotion with Lecce from Serie B at the end of last season.
