Gattuso calls on Napoli to turn attention to league restart: “A difficult game awaits us in Verona.”

Speaking to Naples-based radio station Radio Kiss Kiss, Gennaro Gattuso reflected on his side’s Coppa Italia win on Wednesday night, all the while insisting that Napoli must now look ahead to the future with European qualification at stake as Serie A resumes. The club restarts its league campaign away to Verona, on Tuesday night.

“I have a flaw which has stayed with me since my playing days. When I won a trophy, straight away I started to think about the next one we could win. So it’s very good to have celebrated this fantastic victory in these past few days, but from now we have to concentrate, because a difficult game awaits us in Verona.”

“I happy that the guys dedicated [the trophy to me]. It was a great gesture. They know that I am always their friend, but they also know that when training starts I can become their worst enemy, depending on effort on the pitch. There’s no spite and the, day after we move on. That’s how I am: I give everything for my players, but I expect as much back.”

“We are doing well, but we can grow in many aspects. We know what our strong points are and what we have to improve, for example pressing higher up and playing the ball. We have to be ready to face the next 12 league games the best we can. We have to forget what has been done and have a clear mind to try and climb positions in the table.”
