Milan’s Maldini slams two-year World Cup idea: “FIFA should abandon this wrong project.”

Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has slammed the idea of holding a World Cup every two years, saying that it will have negative consequences.

Maldini was speaking to ANSA recently and he gave his views about a host of issues in football and about Milan. The Rossoneri legend was asked about the idea of having a World Cup after every two years.

The Italian stated: “I don’t think it is a good idea to have a World Cup in every two years. I hope FIFA abandons this wrong project. Any two-year commitment will have negative consequences on the physical and mental health of the footballers.”

He further stated: “Athletes, federations and clubs are aware that that the possible benefits would be very few compared to the many risks that such a decision would bring to the world of football.”
