Fiorentina’s Vincenzo Italiano following controversial loss to Milan: “It is not right”

Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Italiano cut a disappointed figure following La Viola’s 2-1 loss to Milan at the San Siro.

Fiorentina put in a very good performance against the Rossoneri but were undone by controversial refereeing decisions. Jonathan Ikone was fouled in the box by Fikayo Tomori but nothing was given against Milan, whose late winner was also a rather controversial one, as Nikola Milenkovic’s own goal handed Milan all three points.

Italiano spoke about the refereeing issues after the game and he praised his team’s performances, while refusing to add more on the part about officiating.

He told reporters (via DAZN): “I have nothing to say about these instances, because I don’t want to dirty an extraordinary performance by the boys. I saw a team put Milan on the ropes in the first half, then in the second half we had clear sensational opportunities.”

It was Fiorentina’s first loss in five games in all competitions, even though the performance was quite impressive from La Viola. Italiano also stated:

“We lose once again during the ball recoveries. We have to improve. It is not possible to drop points on the road. I think it is not right – after such a performance, not taking away points is not right.”

The loss means that Fiorentina stayed at tenth in the Serie A table with 19 points. But a win for Milan has made sure that the distance between them and Napoli is now back to eight points.
