Massive row with Lazio president put Maurizio Sarri’s contract renewal on hold

Former Juventus and Chelsea boss reportedly had a massive argument with Lazio president following their 2-1 defeat to AC Milan on Sunday.

As reported by Il Messaggero, Lazio president Claudio Lotito has frozen Maurizio Sarri’s contract renewal talks after both gentlemen were involved in a nasty faceoff in the aftermath of Lazio’s recent setback in Rome.

The report suggests that Lotito entered the home team’s locker room and lambasted the former Juve coach for the concession of a last-minute goal. He reportedly hurled at Sarri, “I don’t understand why you never sweep the ball. Have you seen Milan? It’s not forbidden to throw.”

In reply, Sarri opined, “This is my football. If it doesn’t suit you, take Pioli back.”

Despite taking an early lead in the game via a fine finish from Ciro Immobile, Lazio succumbed to a 2-1 defeat in an absurd manner, with goals from Olivier Giroud and Sandro Tonali powering the Rossoneri to their third victory over Lazio this season. Sarri’s contract at Lazio expires in June 2023.
