Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia: “My first love was Guti from Real Madrid”

New Napoli and Serie A star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has revealed that his role models are two former Real Madrid stars – Cristiano Ronaldo and Guti.

Kvaratskhelia has set Serie A and Champions League on fire with his goals and assists, as he tore Ajax and Liverpool to shreds. In the Serie A, the Georgian has racked up five goals and two assists in eight appearances.

He recently spoke to Corriere dello Sport in an interview and he was asked about comparisons with ex-Manchester United star George Best.

He stated: “I don’t pay too much attention to these things and among other things, I think it’s very difficult to reach these levels. Let’s say that I want to reach my level: I’m working for myself. To be Kvara.”

He has recently acquired the tag of being ‘Kvaradona’ and the Georgian even spoke about those comparisons: “I don’t think about it and I don’t even want to think about it. It’s not possible: Maradona is too big. My name is fine: Kvara.”

The Partenopei are at the top of the league right now and have one foot in the next round of the Champions League as well, with Kvaratskhelia being a key reason for that. He was asked about whether he’d prefer winning the Scudetto or the Champions League.

“The Scudetto is a dream, of course. The second round, at this point, is a goal. Nobody has limits. We can grow together, hand in hand. There are no limits. Champions League or the Serie A? Why do I have to choose? Both.”

While the Georgian has previously stated that Cristiano Ronaldo is his role model, he was asked about other role models from his childhood and he picked out Guti as one.

“Cristiano Ronaldo [role model]. Even though my first love was Guti from Real Madrid. When I played with friends in Tbilisi, my city, we wore white shirts. I wrote his name on the back.”
