Roma boss Jose Mourinho close to rejecting Portugal

Roma boss Jose Mourinho is close to rejecting a potential move to the Portugal national team.

Portugal are now without a manager following the exit of Fernando Santos and Mourinho has been one of their prime candidates to become the next boss.

Sky Italia have now reported that while Portugal are putting pressure to hire Mourinho, the ex-Tottenham and Manchester United boss is inching towards rejecting the approach even though he respects the fact that the Portugal Football Federation want him now. He is said to be ‘honoured’ by the thought.

Mourinho believes that it is too too early for him to manage the national team and he wants to focus only on Roma, as he believes that managing the country could take his attention away from the Giallorossi.

He is currently in Portugal for Christmas and he will meet Portugal Football Federation president Fernando Gomes, but he will respectfully reject the approach even though the idea of him managing the national team in the future will remain open.
