Roma boss Jose Mourinho following Napoli defeat: “Napoli didn’t deserve to win”

Roma manager Jose Mourinho believes that Napoli didn’t deserve to win at the Stadio Olimpico in the two sides’ clash on Sunday.

In what was a closely contested tie, Luciano Spalletti’s side came out on top because of a late and brilliant Victor Osimhen goal. The win took the Partenopei three points clear at the top of the Serie A table, with Roma now at fifth in the league.

Following the game though, Mourinho spoke to DAZN (via TMW) and he stated that Napoli didn’t deserve to win and Roma didn’t deserve the tie.

The Portuguese stated: “You have to have certain types of qualities to win but right now, there aren’t any. We have to be more decisive upfront, what lodges into the statistics are the shots on goal. Then I also look at the half opportunities, those that you have to transform into opportunities as Osimhen did.

“The players make the difference, sometimes I am sorry to see the efforts of my players that play minutes. Sometimes it is not an equal fight, we are a team that when fatigue accumulates, we go into difficulty. Congratulations to Napoli who won without deserving to, we lost without deserving to. Irrati didn’t have a great game.”

Mourinho was frustrated with the wastefulness of the forward players in the Giallorossi side and stated: “I expected more, I also expected in the same way that Osimhen scored. The few situations we had, we were not able to exploit them, it was a difficult game.”
