Brighton and ex-Shakhtar boss Roberto de Zerbi: “Mykhailo Mudryk can win the Ballon D’or”

Current Brighton and former Shakhtar Donetsk boss Roberto de Zerbi has stated his belief that new Chelsea signing Mykhailo Mudryk can win the Ballon D’or in the future.

While Arsenal were close to signing the Ukrainian at one point, Get Italian Football News were told by Mirko di Natale that Chelsea offered reasonable bonuses in the deal and that swayed the deal in the Blues’ favour – something that has been confirmed by the Ukrainian outfit.

De Zerbi recently spoke to La Repubblica in a detailed interview about his ideas, his style, his Brighton side, Leandro Trossard and much more. He was also asked about Mudryk, who he coached at Shakhtar Donetsk last season and under whom the youngster really stepped up a gear.

The Italian stated: “Mykhailo has the potential for a top career. In my opinion, he can also win the Ballon d’Or. He is a player of the highest level but he is also very sensitive. He needs affection. We will see if he matches his potential.”

Under De Zerbi, Mudryk played 19 games in all competitions – including the UEFA Champions League, and he scored two goals while racking up nine assists for Shakhtar as well. The 19 games he played under the Italian is the most that he has played under any manager in his career so far.
