Charting Simone Inzaghi’s record in finals ahead of Champions League final

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi has never managed in a European final in his entire career and he gets a shot at doing just that today. But the Italian’s recent record in finals is excellent and that will provide hope to the Nerazzurri today.

When it comes to finals, Inzaghi has already managed two of them this season. The Nerazzurri beat Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana and beat Fiorentina in the Coppa Italia. Last season too, Inzaghi managed in the Coppa Italia final and they managed to beat Juventus 4-2 after extra-time.

It is vital to note that bar the loss to Liverpool, Inzaghi has never been knocked out of competitions so far in his Inter stint. And his record in knockout games was excellent during his time at Lazio as well.

Back in the Supercoppa Italiana final in 2017, Inzaghi’s Lazio had beaten Juventus 3-2, thanks to an Alessandro Murgia goal in stoppage time. Two years later, they also won the Coppa Italia by beating Atalanta in the final and months later, they beat Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana.

The last time Inzaghi lost a final was back in the 2016/17 season, falling to a defeat to Juve in the Coppa Italia final. Since then, his record has been terrific and that puts Inter in good stead against Manchester City today.
