Ciro Immobile expected to be become new Italy captain

Lazio and Italy striker Ciro Immobile is expected to become the new captain of the Italian national team.

Luciano Spalletti has already taken over the Azzurri from Roberto Mancini, who has been announced as the new Saudi Arabia boss. Spalletti won the Scudetto with Napoli last season and has already started taking training sessions in a 4-3-3 formation with the Azzurri.

La Repubblica today state that Immobile is expected to become the new captain of the side, despite the fact that there was talk of him retiring from international football not too long ago.

Corriere dello Sport also state that Immobile will be the skipper of the side, with Spalletti chosing to respect the fact that he is currently the highest appearance-maker in the side. If Immobile isn’t playing, Gianluigi Donnarumma could become the captain.

Against North Macedonia at the weekend, Donnarumma will be the skipper if Giacomo Raspadori starts ahead of Immobile. The Lazio and Napoli striker rotated in the centre-forward’s position yesterday in training, with Matteo Retegui currently being the third-choice.
