Gianluigi Buffon set to become delegation head of Italy national team

Recently retired Italian football legend Gianluigi Buffon is now set to become the delegation head of the Italian national team.

Buffon announced his retirement some days ago, after having taken some time to consider his future. Saudi Arabian clubs had made offers for him but were pegged back but the FIGC had approached the veteran with a role that would have seen him replace the late Gianluca Vialli.

It has now been confirmed that Buffon has become the delegation head of the Italian national team in a role which seemed to have appealed to him, as per previous reports. The role was vacant since January and FIGC have announced that Buffon will soon take charge of the role.

FIGC president Gabriele Gravina revealed that it is a ‘great day’ for the Azzurri, describing Buffon as a ‘great’ person and as an ‘icon’ in the game. Buffon revealed that he had decided to say ‘yes’ to the move ever since first contact was made.
