Milan are set to lose out on an enormous amount of prize money if they cannot progress to the knockouts of the Champions League.
According to a report by Sky Italia, Milanโs underwhelming campaign in the Champions League this season have only led them to earn โฌ60 million till now. This figure is far less than the estimated amount after assessing last seasonโs performances. While the Rossoneri still have a chance to make the knockouts tonight by defeating Newcastle United and depending on results elsewhere, a defeat would put them out of the Europa League qualification spot.ย
Stefano Pioliโs side earned sizeable prize money of โฌ127 million last campaign after progressing to the semi-finals of the European competition, ultimately losing out to neighbourhood rivals Inter.ย
There is a possibility that Milan drop to the Europa League and even if they win the competition, they will only be able to receive โฌ25 million, adding up all the figures related to participation, win bonuses and other factors.ย
