Italian football reigns supreme in European competitions this season

Atleast one Italian side has qualified for each of the three European competitions this season, with the Champions League and the Europa League having two teams each.

With Fiorentina having made it to the semi-finals of the Conference League and the two Milan clubs having made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League, Roma and Juventus have also gone through to the semi-finals of the Europa League.

According to Opta, this is the first time in history that five Italian sides are in the semi–finals of European competitions. More than that, all the clubs have made their own share of history because of their progressions to the semi-finals.

Roma have now qualified for the semi-finals of all three competitions atleast once since the 2017/18 season and this is the first time since 2007 that Milan have reached this far in the Champions League. Fiorentina haven’t reached a European semi-final since 2015 but they are only the third team to have reached the semis of the European Cup, UEFA Cup, Conference League, Europa League and the Cup Winners’ Cup.

Whether an Italian side actually wins an accolade or not is a completely different case, but an achievement like this certainly does put Calcio back on the map once again.
