Italy icon Gianluigi Buffon edges close to retirement

Italy legend Gianluigi Buffon could soon announce his decision of retiring from professional football.

According to a report by Gianluca Di Marzio, Gianluigi Buffon is getting closer to retirement as he has rejected advances from Saudi Arabian clubs and all other factors indicating a goodbye to professional football from him.

The 45-year-old couldn’t lead his childhood club Parma to secure Serie A promotion last season as The Gialloblu got knocked out of the Serie B playoff semi-finals over the two legs against Cagliari. Another season could have been expected from Buffon if things went the other way round but in this case, he might be opting to hang up his boots.

Gianluigi Buffon won 10 Scudetto, 1 Serie B championship, 6 Coppa Italia and 7 Supercoppa Italiana with Juventus, where he went to became a legend of the club. With Paris Saint-Germain, he won the Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup once each. He led Italy to become World Cup champions in 2006. 

An illustrious footballing career is set to come to an end as the legendary goalkeeper hopes to say goodbye to the game soon.
