Milan boss Stefano Pioli finds positives in disappointing Empoli draw

Milan were held 0-0 by Empoli at the San Siro but Rossoneri boss Stefano Pioli found some positive elements to the performance, despite the result.

Milan had a late goal disallowed for handball and had key penalty calls go against them in the game and they also hit the post once. Empoli registered only one shot on target, as they relied on their backline to keep Milan away from taking the lead.

The Rossoneri are in a top four race and a win could have handed them an advantage in it, especially because of Interโ€™s draw against Salernitana.

Pioli spoke to Sky Italia (via TMW) after the game and he was content with the performance. He stated: ย โ€œItโ€™s not the result we wanted, we had to do better in the first half. We played with great intensity, conceding little to the opponent in the second half we did everything, but the ball didnโ€™t want to go in. The team is healthy even if the result is negative.โ€

Milan made some changes to the starting line-up today but Charles de Ketelaere still couldnโ€™t start and Pioli spoke about the Belgian and his performances for the club.

โ€œCharles does everything he has to to convince me to let him play. Tonight, I had already changed five players. He is ready to give his contribution and he will do it. He always works intensely during the week. Yes, he will be ready when called upon. He is a mature boy who knows he can overcome difficultiesโ€

Milan do stay at third in the table for the time being but a win could have taken them to only one point off Lazio, who play Juventus tomorrow. The Bianconeri could also be in the top four race soon, as a win against Lazio could put them four points behind Inter.
