Milan’s Rafael Leao nearing return from injury versus Newcastle United

Milan’s Rafael Leao has fully recovered from his injury ahead of his side’s trip to Newcastle United.

According to a report by Gianluca Di Marzio, Milan coach Stefano Pioli arranged a small match with the club’s Primavera team today morning during training. Several first-team players, including Rafael Leao, featured in the match and the Portuguese felt no discomfort while playing.

The 24-year-old picked up a hamstring injury late-November and the Rossoneri’s defeat to Atalanta in their previous outing marked his fifth-straight game on the sidelines. However, Leao is expected to have undergone his full recovery period and Pioli aims to have his star man available for the Champions League match against Newcastle this week.

The winger has seven goal contributions this season despite going out with injury as he is set to build on the momentum he made before getting injured.

In other news, Simon Kjaer completed customised training and Theo Hernandez might have to adapt as a central defender at Tyneside, due to the raft of injuries suffered by the backline.
