Milan’s record in England assessed ahead of Champions League tie v Tottenham

Milan take on Tottenham in the second leg of the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League and they currently carry a 1-0 lead to London.

But while the advantage is theirs so far, Milan’s record in England isn’t the best – especially in recent years. Back in the 2010/11 season, they had travelled to London to take on Spurs, but the Lilywhites had held them to a 0-0 draw before beating them 1-0 at the San Siro.

In recent times, their record in England has barely been great. Their most recent trip to London saw them take on Chelsea and they sustained a 3-0 loss at Stamford Bridge before also losing at San Siro.

At Anfield last season, Milan did put in a spirited performance but they ended up losing 3-2 against Jurgen Klopp’s side. They also visited Old Trafford to take on Manchester United two seasons but were held to a 1-1 draw despite a decent performance.

They had faced Arsenal in the Round of 16 of the 2017/18 season and their visit to the Emirates had seen them lose 3-1 and they lost the overall tie by a 5-1 margin.

These are rather negative signs for Stefano Pioli’s side, who would love to turn their fortunes around in England.
