Napoli CEO Aurelio de Laurentiis has revealed that Victor Osimhenโs mood might have changed after a new deal was initially agreed between the two parties.
After the summer transfer window, De Laurentiis had held multiple meetings with Osimhenโs agent Roberto Calenda and there was talk that a renewal was all but done. But that hasnโt quite happened yet and there are now more doubts about the Nigerianโs future.
The doubts were fuelled after Calendaโs comments following the TikTok controversy, giving rise to belief that Osimhen could even leave in January.
De Laurentiis spoke about Osimhenโs situation in some detail in a chat with Sport Mediaset (via TMW), revealing that Osimhen potentially changed his mind about the renewal.
De Laurentiis stated: โI have never been unhappy towards Osimhen, but there are always two of us in these things. I have remained the same, if his mood has changed I canโt do anything about it. If things change after a handshake, itโs disappointing, we take note of it but then life goes on. There are excellent relations with him, the contract expires in 2025, there is time. Donโt forget that I sold Koulibaly a year before his contract expired.โ
Osimhen is currently injured and is expected to be out for the next 40 days. He expressed annoyance at a substitution some weeks ago and things havenโt always seemed smooth with Rudi Garcia, but it remains to be seen if the striker can leave in January or not.
