Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis sends apology message to fans and makes transfer pledge

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has on Friday issued a heartfelt message of apology to the club’s fanbase.

This comes after the Partenopei, a short time ago, slipped to yet another disappointing Serie A result.

In the midst of an alarming stretch of five defeats from seven across all competitions, Walter Mazzarri’s troops welcomed Monza to Naples, eyeing a much-needed return to winning ways.

When all was said and done, however, the evening’s hosts were forced to settle for a disappointing share of the spoils, owing to a goalless stalemate.

This leaves the reigning Scudetto holders sitting in a lowly 7th in the Serie A table, a full 17 points off the pace of table-topping Inter Milan.

Amid a season which, despite being only half completed, is now close to being labelled a write-off, a whole host of leading individuals at The Stadio Diego Armando Maradona have in turn been singled out for heavy criticism.

One, though, who is of the opinion that he stands alone as the sole cause for Napoli’s sudden downfall, comes in the form of the aforementioned Aurelio De Laurentiis.

Speaking to the media on the back of the Partenopei’s draw with Monza, De Laurentiis was drawn on his side’s recent woes, and made use of the opportunity to send a sincere apology to the club’s fanbase.

As cited by CalcioNapoli24, the Italian patron explained:

“It’s only my responsibility, my fault. Players or coaches are not responsible for this season, it’s on me. I’m here to apologize to Napoli fans for our season.”

From here, though, De Laurentiis issued an encouraging message regarding his intentions for the winter transfer window, adding:

“We will fix the situation by signing new players in January.”
