Napoli’s Victor Osimhen on his future: “I don’t know what will happen”

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has cast doubts about his long-term future at the club, while acknowledging that he is only thinking about playing for the Partenopei this season.

Luciano Spalletti’s side are at the top of the table in Serie A and despite the defeat to Lazio, they are 15 points clear at the pinaccle of the table. Osimhen has been vital to these performances, along with his teammate Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and their combination has dominated Serie A and the Champions League.

Osimhen recently received the ‘Best Foreign Athlete in Italy’ award and after the ceremony, the Nigerian was asked a range of questions and they centred around Kvaratskhelia, Napoli and his future at the club.

On his long-term future at the Maradona, the striker stated: “Playing in Serie A is wonderful for me. I know that people consider the Premier League to be the most important championship in the world, but for now I don’t think about it, I don’t know what will happen.

“I’m working hard and I’m happy to play in Naples. I do my best to achieve my goals and maybe to play in the Premier League one day, but I’m enjoying the moment. For me, Serie A remains a great challenge, with different characteristics from other leagues and with fans who always make you feel their support. In this aspect, for me it’s the best league.”

A host of English clubs have been linked with Osimhen, but Manchester United and Chelsea remain the most interested sides. The Blues are even said to be keen on doubling the player’s wage, with the striker at the top of United’s wishlist as well.
