Nasser Al-Khelaifi praises Juventus’ Super League exit

Paris Saint-Germain owner Nasser Al-Khelaifi has expressed his praise for Juventus’ decision to exit the plan for the European Super League.

The Bianconeri recently stated that they will not be part of the plans for the Super League, with only Barcelona and Real Madrid left. With Juve facing a European ban from UEFA as part of their capital gains saga, the move is one which puts them in UEFA’s good books. There has been talk of UEFA considering banning Juve from European football next season.

Al-Khelaifi, who was never in favour of the Super League at PSG, spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TMW) and he praised the Old Lady for their functioning.

He said: “I think it is the right and intelligent decision, on their part, to leave the so-called not-so-Super League. There is no future there, there is no project, there is nothing, so it makes sense to go back to the family.

“It’s a waste of time, energy and money, and all for nothing. So they better focus on the club, get back into the family and the real football ecosystem. Smart people realize mistakes and correct them. So I think it’s a great decision by Juventus. Of course I welcome all who realize their mistake. And that’s what they should do. It applies to Juventus and to all the others.”

Al-Khelaifi was also asked about the hardships faced by the Bianconeri but he side-stepped that question, refusing to get into their issues. He encouraged Juve to re-join the ECA soon, having left it when the Super League was born.
