Roma boss Jose Mourinho on Romelu Lukaku after win over Monza: โ€œHe is no longer a child like when I met himโ€

Roma boss Jose Mourinho has praised striker Romelu Lukaku following the clubโ€™s 1-0 win over Monza in the Serie A earlier today.

Lukaku has been in fine form for Roma since joining the club on a loan deal from Chelsea and while he didnโ€™t score against Monza, the Giallorossi picked up a vital 1-0 win. Stephan El Shaarawy got a late goal to win it for Mourinhoโ€™s side, who had to toil hard despite Danilo Dโ€™Ambrosioโ€™s costly sending off for the Biancorossi.

Mourinho spoke to the press after the game and he was asked about Lukaku and his importance to side, as he hailed the Belgian once again despite the lack of a goal earlier today (via RomaNews).

He said: โ€œHe always scored, even when he played for inferior teams like West Bromwich.ย We are not a very fast team, we have some limitations in transition when we win the ball back.ย Romelu gives us these qualities on the restart.ย He is no longer a child like when I met him.โ€

In the Serie A so far, Lukaku has scored five goals in six games but he has also found the back of the net twice in two Europa League games. It shows how well he has started his time at the club, with Mourinho once again reigniting a vital player.
