Roma set for meeting with Alvaro Morata’s agents today

Roma are set to hold a meeting with the agents of Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata today.

Il Messaggero have provided some details about Roma’s interest in Morata, stating that the Spaniard has spoken to ex-Juventus teammate Paulo Dybala about the Giallorossi and the Spaniard is said to be enticed by the idea of playing for Roma. It is said to be a suitable destination for his wife, who would be keen.

There is also confidence from Jose Mourinho’s end that he would be at the centre of the project. Now, Roma will try to move for him. Morata’s agents have been in contact with Tiago Pinto for the last few days and they will be in Rome today to have face-to-face talks.

Morata currently earns €6.5 million plus bonuses but when he signs an extension with Atleti, that figure will drop to €5.5 million per season and then to €4.5 million per season. His release clause will also go from €21.5 million to €12 million once the new deal is signed. Roma can’t take advantage of the Growth Decree regulations, so they will have to give him a long-term deal.

But to sign him, Roma would have to make sales. They currently do not have the liquidity to sign him, with Leonardo Spinazzola and Roger Ibanez considered to be two candidates who can depart. Morata seems quite interested in joining Roma, despite a recent enquiry from Juventus.
