Roma boss Jose Mourinho has revealed that while he did reject approaches from the Middle East, he remains open to potentially managing there.
The Giallorossi boss was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia and offers were made but he pegged it back, keen on staying in Rome. The Portuguese national team also wanted to sign Mourinho some months ago but that move also didnโt materialise.
He has now admitted that a move was made by Saudi clubs and he rejected them, but that isnโt the end of the story. He told Corriere dello Sport:
โBefore going to the meeting, I informed the property clarifying that I had no intention of accepting. At home I said exactly the same thing. On the one hand, I felt like a prisoner of the word given to the players in Budapest and to the fans after Spezia, mimicking the stay. But if you ask me if I didnโt accept just for this reason, I answer no, not just for this.โ
He was further asked about the situation regarding his future and if the door to the Middle East is closed or not.
โItโs not definitive, itโs not. In the past, I turned down the most incredible offer a manager has ever received when China offered me the bench of the national team and a club where all the internationals would play. An indecent economic proposal, out of this world.โ
Mourinho was linked with an exit from the Roman outfit at the end of last season but he ended up staying, having informed his players after the Europa League final that he would stay with them, moved by their emotional reaction to the penalty shootout defeat.
