Serie A to suffer major financial blow as Growth Decree to be removed in 2024

In what will come as a massive financial blow to the Serie A, Growth Decree regulations are being removed by the Italian government in the next months.

The Growth Decree regulations proved to be a huge financial help for Italian sides, who were able to save wages for specific players and it helped Serie A clubs attract better players and potentially lure them away from other European giants.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via TMW) state that the Italian government has played to scrape the Growth Decree regulations in 2024 and athletes will be excluded from enjoying the benefits of the system as well. This regulation will come into play from the 1st of January, 2024 onwards but it will have an impact on the signings made by clubs in the summer of 2023.

Inter, for example, signed Marcus Thuram and used the benefits of the Growth Decree regulations. Milan did the samee for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tijjandi Reijnders, Christian Pulisic and Samuel Chukwueze and Juventus did the same for Timothy Weah, whereas Napoli did it for Jesper Lindstrom and Natan.

How this impacts the players that are already there remains to be seen, but this will certainly hamper how signings are made in the Serie A.
