Europa League Final | Atalanta make history in Dublin

Atalanta are now the Europa League champions for the first time in history and have broken Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak at a very crucial juncture.

Leverkusen were on the hunt for an invincible treble in what could have been one of the greatest achievements in the game’s history. But Atalanta put in a dominating performance, winning silverware under Gian Piero Gasperini for the first time in history.

Not just that, Atalanta were playing in their first ever European final and this is their first European title win. More so, this is their first silverware win since 2011, when they won the Serie B. They have not won a single piece of top-flight silverware since then and that makes the win even more special. The last time they won a top-flight piece of silverware was 62 years ago and it will be their second major trophy in history.

More so, Ademola Lookman scored a sensational hat-trick and no one has ever scored a hat-trick in a Europa League final before. It is another piece of history for the club, which also broke Leverkusen’s historic streak of unbeaten games.
