FIGC are currently looking at a plan to restructure Italian football as a whole, but it is facing repression from club owners and CEOs.
SportItalia today state that FIGC chief Gabriele Gravina has planned what has been described as a โsubstantial reformโ of the Italian sport that wonโt just impact Serie A but would also impact the lower divisions in Calcio. The idea is to drastically reduce the number of teams that take part in the professional leagues.
Serie A would reduce to an 18-team league, with the applying to Serie B and Serie C going from having 60 teams across divisions to having only 18 teams.ย
The idea is said to have the backing of Inter CEO Beppe Marotta and Lazio CEO Claudio Lotito. But the idea doesnโt fit well for the lesser clubs, who would essentially be at a higher risk of not playing in the professional divisions.
