FIGC set to investigate Francesco Acerbi-Juan Jesus racism case today

Italian football federation (FIGC) is set to investigate the racism case involving Inter’s Francesco Acerbi and Napoli’s Juan Jesus in a detailed way today.

La Gazzetta dello Sport state today that the chief prosecutor has already made appointments for meetings in the case involving the two players, with Jesus’ Instagram post yesterday clearly mentioning that comments of a racist nature were made by Acerbi.

All the neccessary images will be assessed and there is a possibility that others could be asked to testify to understand more about the situation.

If the racist nature of the insult were confirmed, Acerbi would be charged with violating article 28 of the Sports Justice Code on “discriminatory behaviour”. And the sanctions in this case are particularly heavy. The Italian would be suspended for as many as ten games and depending on the ruling, it could also be a fixed-term suspension which could see the player miss more than ten games for Inter.

More details could emerge later today, with Acerbi having stated yesterday that he didn’t make any racist comments.
